South Africa has recorded 3 522 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 621 362.
The country has also recorded 167 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Wednesday. This brings the total number of deaths to 55 507.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the North West.
“Regrettably, we report 167 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 3, Free State 38, Gauteng 35, Kwa-Zulu Natal 6, Limpopo 19, Mpumalanga 3, North West 46, Northern Cape 7 and Western Cape 10,” says Dr Mkhize.
Recoveries stand at 1 528 868.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 11 207 305.
