SA records 3 184 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has conducted 9 779 615 tests so far, with 27 553 conducted in the last 24-hour cycle.

South Africa has recorded 3 184 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country’s total cases to 1 473 700. Gauteng still accounts for the highest number of cases, 393 555, of the country’s total infections followed by KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) with 320 579.

The death toll has climbed to 46 180 after 278 new COVID-19 realted deaths were reported.

Most of the new fatalities are from KZN, which has recorded 109 new deaths.

“Regrettably, we report a further 278 COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 20, Free State 20, Gauteng 50, KwaZulu-Natal 109, Limpopo three, Mpumalanga 19 and Western Cape 57; which brings the total to 46 180 deaths. We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients,” says Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize.

Tests and recoveries

South Africa has conducted 8 469 756 COVID-19 tests so far, with 33 187 conducted in the last 24-hour cycle.

The private sector accounts for 56% (4 783 582) of total tests, while the public sector accounts for 44% (3 686 174).

The country’s recoveries stand at 1 340 497.
