SA records 2 810 new COVID-19 infections

South Africa continues to see a drop in the number of new coronavirus (COVID-19) infections. This after the Department of Health confirmed 2 810 new COVID-19 cases since the last report. This is a massive drop to the country that once consistently recorded more than 10 000 cases daily.

The total number of tests conducted to date is 3 295 434 with 16 457 new tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

Sadly, 259 new fatalities were recorded, taking the death toll in the country to 11 011.

“The number of recoveries currently stands at 432 029 which translates to a recovery rate of 75,9%,” reads in part the statement by the Department of Health.

Mac Jack dies of COVID-19 related complications

Meanwhile, the African National Congress (ANC) in the Northern Cape has confirmed that provincial MEC for Education, Mac Jack died of COVID-19 related complications.

Jack passed away earlier tonight after testing positive for the coronavirus. He served as a MEC in various portfolios in the province and was a member of the ANC’s provincial executive committee at the time of his death.

ANC provincial secretary Deshi Ngxanga says the party is shocked.
