SA records 2 327 new coronavirus cases, 230 deaths

The Health Department has recorded 2 327 new COVID-19 cases, taking the number of total infections to 1 498 766 in the last 24 hours.

There have been a further 230 COVID-19 related deaths in the country, bringing the national death toll to 48 708.

In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in Limpopo.

“Regrettably, we report 230 more COVID-19 related deaths: 24 from Eastern Cape, 7 from the Free State, 21 from Gauteng, 27 from KwaZulu-Natal, 122 from Limpopo, 10 from Mpumalanga, 0 from North West, 0 from Northern Cape and 19 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.

The cumulative total number of tests conducted to date is 8 807 299.

The total number of recoveries stands at 1 403 214.
