SA records 16 078 new coronavirus cases, 148 deaths

SAHPRA says, like other regulators across the world, it concerns itself with safety, quality and efficacy of health products.

South Africa has recorded 16 078 new COVID-19 cases, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 1 877 143.  This increase represents a 24.5 % positivity rate.

The Gauteng province accounts for 59% of the new cases. It is followed by the Western Cape at 12 %.

The Gauteng Provincial Command Council briefed the media on Thursday over the high number of cases: 

 

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported a further 148 COVID-19- related deaths, bringing total fatalities to 59 406.

The number of hospital admissions increased by 607 overnight and 12 769 052 tests have so far been conducted in both the public and private sectors.
