SA records 15 002 new COVID-19 cases, 288 deaths

South Africa has recorded 15 002 New coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the past 24-hours, bringing the total number of cases to 1 088 889.

The country has also recorded 288 new COVID-19 related fatalities, pushing the death toll to 29 175.

Most of the new deaths were recorded in the Western Cape.

In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says ,“Regrettably, 288 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 92, Free State 9, Gauteng 39, KwaZulu-Natal 29, Mpumalanga 6, Northern Cape 2 and Western Cape 111. This brings the total to 29 175.”

Recoveries now stand at 897 704, representing a recovery rate of 82,4%

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has warned those seeking to enter South Africa with fraudulent negative coronavirus test results that they are undermining South Africa’s sovereignty and will be dealt with. Motsoaledi visited the Beitbridge Border Post in Musina to assess the situation.

The Minister says he has given instructions to all border post officials that anyone attempting to come into South Africa with a fraudulent COVID-19 test result must be told to return to their country of origin and their passport stamped undesirable.
