South Africa has recorded 1 913 new coronavirus cases. This brings the total number of cases to 685 155.
The country has also recorded 145 new COVID-19 related fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 17 248.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal.
“Regrettably, we report 145 more COVID-19 related deaths: “42 from KwaZulu-Natal, 41 from Gauteng, 1 from Eastern Cape, 11 from Free State, 24 from Limpopo, 11 from Mpumalanga, 7 from the Northern Cape and 8 from Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 4 318 514.
The number of recoveries now stands at 618 127, this translates to a recovery rate of 90%.
