South Africa has recorded 1 877 new coronavirus cases. This brings the total number of cases to 696 414.
The country has also recorded 123 new COVID-19 related fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 18 151.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the Eastern Cape.
“Regrettably, we report 123 more COVID-19 related deaths: “44 from Eastern Cape, 35 from Gauteng, 14 from Free State, 17 from KwaZulu-Natal, 8 from North West and 5 from Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 4 458 745.
The number of recoveries now stands at 626 898, this translates to a recovery rate of 90%.
