The Health Department has reported 1 862 new cases of coronavirus, taking the number of total infections to 1 507 448.
There have been a further 110 COVID-19-related deaths in the country, bringing the national death toll to 49 523 deaths.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the Free State.
“Regrettably, we report 110 more COVID-19 related deaths: 5 from Eastern Cape, 61 from the Free State, 12 from Gauteng, 7 from KwaZulu-Natal, 0 from Limpopo, 7 from Mpumalanga, 0 from North West, 1 from Northern Cape and 17 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
Recoveries now stand at 1 422 622, representing a recovery rate of 94%.
