South Africa has recorded 1 861 new coronavirus cases. This brings the total number of cases to 667 049.
The country has also recorded 77 new COVID-19 related fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 16 283.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in Gauteng.
“Regrettably, we report 77 more COVID-19 related deaths: “7 from Eastern Cape, 8 from KwaZulu-Natal, 58 from Gauteng and 4 from Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 4 102 162.
The number of recoveries now stands at 595 906, this translates to a recovery rate of 89,3%.
