South Africa has recorded 1 749 new coronavirus cases. This brings the total number of cases to 677 833.
The country has also recorded 43 new COVID-19 related fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 16 909.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the Free State.
“Regrettably, we report 43 more COVID-19 related deaths: “9 from the Free State, 3 from Eastern Cape, 8 from KwaZulu-Natal, 8 from Gauteng, 8 from Western Cape and 7 from the Northern Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 4 229 709.
The number of recoveries now stands at 611 044, this translates to a recovery rate of 90%.
