South Africa has recorded 1 736 new coronavirus cases. This brings the total number of cases to 686 891.
The country has also recorded 160 new COVID-19 related fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 17 408.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal.
“Regrettably, we report 160 more COVID-19 related deaths: “105 from KwaZulu-Natal, 13 from Gauteng, 18 from Eastern Cape, 6 from Free State, 6 from Limpopo, 4 from Mpumalanga and 8 from Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 4 339 686.
The number of recoveries now stands at 618 771, this translates to a recovery rate of 90%.
