SA records 1 731 new COVID-19 cases, 40 deaths

The Department of Health has reported 1 731 new coronavirus infections in the country, taking the total number of cases to 735 906.

Forty more South Africans have succumbed to the illness.

According to health authorities, the majority of the fatalities were from the Eastern Cape with 21 deaths.

“Two from Gauteng, seven from Free State, six from KwaZulu-Natal and four from the Western Cape.”

South Africa’s COVID-19 death toll now stands at 19 789.

Recoveries stand at 678 738, which translates to a 92% recovery rate.
