South Africa has recorded 1 569 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 569 935.
The country has also recorded 53 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Wednesday. This brings the total number of deaths to 53 940.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the Eastern Cape.
“Regrettably, we report 53 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 17, Free State 11, Gauteng 8, Kwa-Zulu Natal 3, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 1, North West 0, Northern Cape 9 and Western Cape 4,” says Dr Mkhize.
Recoveries stand at 1 495 864.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 10 413 180.
