SA records 1 503 796 COVID-19 cases, 49 053 deaths

The Health Department has recorded 1 429 news cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa to 1 503 796.

The cumulative total of tests conducted to date is 8 892 515 with 24 856 new tests recorded since the last report.

The department regrettably reported a further 113 deaths COVID-19 related deaths, Eastern Cape two, Free State 12, Gauteng 17, Kwa-Zulu Natal one, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 0, North West 69, Northern Cape two and Western Cape 10, which brings the total to 49 053 deaths.

Health Department conveyed condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients.

The recoveries now stand at 1 412 015, representing a recovery rate of 93,8%.

The number of health care workers vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol is 15 388 as of 6 pm 21 February 2021.
