The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 1 393 new COVID-19 cases in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 707 089.
“24,453 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 1,393 new cases, which represents a 5.7% positivity rate,” notes the NICD on Wednesday.
No COVID-19 related deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours.
The total number of fatalities currently stands at 99 899. Recoveries now stand at 3 594 194.

President Ramaphosa addresses the nation | 22 March 2022
President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced Cabinet’s intention to lift the National State of Disaster that came into effect two years ago after the coronavirus outbreak in South Africa. The President announced a number of eased COVID19 restrictions. However, Ramaphosa says the country will remain on Level One of the lockdown and warned that the relaxing of some regulations does not imply the end of the pandemic. He was addressing the nation on Government’s response to the COVID19 pandemic on Tuesday.
