South Africa has recorded 1 372 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 562 931. The country has also recorded 73 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Thursday. This brings the total number of deaths to 53 571.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in Kwa-Zulu Natal. “Regrettably, we report 73 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 13, Free State 6, Gauteng 16, Kwa-Zulu Natal 20, Limpopo 8, Mpumalanga 4, North West 0, Northern Cape 1 and Western Cape 5,” says Dr Mkhize.
Recoveries stand at 1 488 060.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 10 259 664.
The number of healthcare workers vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol is 292 623.
