The country has also recorded 53 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Friday. This brings the total number of deaths to 53 226.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the Western Cape.
“Regrettably, we report 62 more COVID-19 related deaths: 0 from Eastern Cape, 12 from the Free State, 11 from Gauteng, 2 from Kwa-Zulu Natal, 2 from Limpopo, 0 from Mpumalanga, 0 from the North West, 10 from the Northern Cape and 16 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
Recoveries currently stand at 1 481 637.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 10 086 459.
The number of healthcare workers vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol stands at 288 368.
