SA records 1 149 new coronavirus cases, 59 deaths

South Africa has recorded 1 149 new COVID-19 cases, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 908 768.

This increase represents a 3.2% positivity rate.

The majority of new cases on Wednesday are from Western Cape (22%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (18%).

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases has reported a further 59 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 87 981 to date.

17 864 698 tests have been conducted in the public and private sectors.
