South Africa has recorded 1 086 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 579 536.
The country has also recorded 46 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Thursday. This brings the total number of deaths to 54 331.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in Gauteng.
“Regrettably, we report 46 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 13, Free State 11, Gauteng 14, Kwa-Zulu Natal 2, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 0, North West 0, Northern Cape 3 and Western Cape 3,” says Dr Mkhize.
Recoveries stand at 1 504 426.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 10 625 030.
The number of healthcare workers vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol to date is 307 591.
