SA receives another batch of the J&J COVID-19 vaccine

The Department of Health says another batch of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in South Africa.

The doses will be used to immunise more healthcare workers in different provinces.

South Africa has so far vaccinated more than 170 000 healthcare workers in both the public and private sectors.

Gauteng has depleted its stock of the Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

The province has already vaccinated more than 31 000 health care workers.

Health ministry spokesperson Lwazi Manzi says, “We do confirm that about 70 000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have arrived this morning at 8:30am. [The vaccine] would be distributed according to the allocation as to the various provinces for inoculation of health care workers.”
