The South African Post Office (SAPO) has temporarily suspended its airmail service to China as air connections to the country are currently unavailable due to travel restrictions.

China is currently under strict lockdown restrictions as it attempts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in terms of its so-called “zero COVID” policy. The post office says however that surface mail to China remains available.

The post office says it now offers an airmail service to 34 countries and surface mail to 51 countries.

It says customers who order items from other countries should include their cell phone number with their address to receive an SMS when items are ready for collection.

Customers have also been advised to visit the website of the postal administration in the receiving country for more information.
