The search for missing six-year-old Joslin Smith in Saldanha on the Cape West Coast has been bolstered with the addition of a contingent from the South African Navy.

The City of Cape Town’s metro canine unit and the city’s search and rescue experts also joined the search last week following a call for help from the Saldanha municipality.

Police in the  Western Cape are, however, calling for responsible social media reporting.

Police Spokesperson Novela Potelwa says, “As the search for missing Joslin Smith intensifies in Saldanha Bay, the South African Police Services in the Western Cape is calling for responsible social media use after a series of misleading posts were shared on media platforms.”

“Joslin was reported missing on February 19. The search party comprises various role players and has been bolstered with the City of Cape Town trainees, Saldanha Bay city firefighters, SA Navy and SAPS canine unit as well as provincial detectives joining the search.”
