SA in desperate need of leadership: Thabo Makgoba

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Anglican Archbishop, Thabo Makgoba, says South Africa is in desperate need of leadership and hope. He says the country is currently facing a plethora of social, economic and political challenges.

Makgoba was speaking at the University of the Western Cape’s Chancellor’s Outstanding Alumni Awards, held at Bishops Court.

He has praised the leadership shown by the recipients of the awards including Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.

“Ours is a society whose public space is dominated by negativity – one in which a cult of mediocrity is beginning to obscure excellence. It is precisely for this reason that occasions such as these are important, where we celebrate excellence and we promote it aggressively and counteract the negative narrative that is emerging in South Africa.”
