Medical professional and veteran health activist, Dr. Aslam Dasoo says South Africa has reached the peak of severity in terms of Omicron coronavirus variant.

He says the country’s measures are good enough to deal with the virus.

This follows an announcement by the national health department to stop all COVID-19 quarantine and contact tracing with immediate effect. This applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated contacts.

Dasoo says there is hope in the fight against the pandemic.

“We may be entering a new face of the pandemic. We may have been the last of the variant of concern. This is the optimistic view and it is not without justification and if that is the case I think the mindset of people has to shift from only being fearful and shift perfection mode to begin to understand how we live with this virus for the ensuing period. There is a glamour of hope,” says Dasoo.
