The South African Fed Cup team has gained promotion to the Europe/Africa Group 2 for next year. They ousted Malta 2-1 in the promotional play-off final in Montenegro.

South Africa had upset Finland in group action, and then came 0-1 down to beat a strong Malta side who had upset second seed Morocco to earn the playoff spot against South Africa.

Chanel Simmons won her singles rubber, then teamed up with Madrie le Roux to clinch the decisive doubles match.

“We are ecstatic to be promoted. It’s been a great week for Team South Africa. Coming a few days early to practice on the clay definitely gave us the advantage of being as prepared as possible. We worked very well as a team and everyone played an important part in our victories. Appreciate all the support from home and looking forward to next years Fed Cup.”
