SA cabinet to discuss Integrated Resource Plan on energy soon: Pandor

Reading Time: < 1 minute

International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor says cabinet will soon be discussing its Integrated Resource Plan on energy amid recognition of the need to reduce carbon emissions.

Pandor was speaking on the side lines of the United Nations General Assembly, amid calls in some quarters for no new coal power stations to be built beyond 2020.

However, Minister Pandor says South Africa has a dilemma in that it has large coal deposits. The Minister has acknowledged that the country needs to move towards other sources of energy besides coal and it is already making strikes in solar and wind generation, with these energy sources expected to grow further in the coming years.
