SA breaches 2 million COVID-19 cases as the country records highest daily infections

South Africa has breached the two million COVID-19 cases mark, with a further 24 270 new infections recorded in the past 24-hour cycle. It is the highest ever number of new coronavirus cases reported in a day.

The country’s total cases since the pandemic outbreak now stand at 2 019 826. Total deaths have increased to 61 332, with 303 new fatalities recorded today.

Gauteng has registered almost 59 percent of all new infections, with 14 198. The Western Cape follows with 2 606 new infections.
