Over 50 of South Africa’s most well-known singers on Wednesday joined forces to draw inspiration from the National Anthem in the face of the global viral threat. The organisers of the #AnthemChallengeRSA say the performers have come together under the lockdown and recorded, “Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika.”

This is to illustrate that, while alone in self-isolation, South Africans remain united as a country.

They say this forms part of efforts to get 1 000 South Africans to take part in the largest-ever virtual rendition of the national anthem for the Anthem Challenge RSA, as the country stands up to tackle and defeat COVID-19. The organisers say once the virtual choir has been assembled by early June.

They hope that other countries will be challenged to follow suit in creating their own virtual national anthem choirs in a bid to unite Mother Earth.
