RUSA advises holidaymakers to secure their properties

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) has advised holidaymakers to ensure that their properties are adequately secured before embarking on their vacation.

The organisation says criminals will be looking for easy targets to cash in on this festive season.

Operations manager at RUSA, Vinod Singh, says home owners need to take precautions when leaving their properties unattended.

“My advice is that they should ensure that their properties are secure, ensure that their alarm systems are in working order, they do not leave any loose items that will attract any unsavoury characters to their property, inform their security company and inform neighbours. They should also cancel any newspaper subscriptions which will prevent a build-up of newspapers which will alert criminals that people are away. Try fitting a day/night switch and do not leave lights on permanently as that is an indication that no one is at home,” says Singh.
