Roelf fires Umoya past Swallows in Glad Africa Championship game

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Cape Umoya United picked up their first win of the Glad Africa Championship season on Friday afternoon, when they beat Swallows Football Club 1-0 at the Athlone Stadium.

A second half strike from new signing Gregory Roelf, handed Dominic Isaacs’ side the win in Umoya’s first home game of the season, in a tightly contested match. Isaacs says it was a nice open game and it was good to get the win on the day.

Isaacs had special praise for goalkeeper Samora Motloung, Roscoe Pietersen, his captain Manti Mekoa, and the goalscorer Roelf.

Swallows coach Zeca Marques says he does not feel like the result reflects the match, and thought his side were unlucky not to come away with anything from the game.

Marques says while he is happy with the progress the team is making, he says they do need to start taking their chances going forward. – Report by Rob Delport
