Rodgers says winning league, fighting relegation equally difficult

Reading Time: 2 minutes

For Free State Stars striker Eleazar Rodgers it is a tricky place to find himself fighting to avoid relegation with one game left to go before the 2018/2019 Absa Premiership seasons ends.

Only a few seasons ago, Rodgers won the league with Gauteng-based side Bidvest Wits in 2017.

The lanky player, who joined Stars in July last year, has been working to help the team escape relegation. He has appeared in 23 league matches and scored four goals and four assists.

The team face a mammoth task when they host Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday in the final game of the season at the Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem.

Rodgers says winning the league and fighting relegation is equally difficult.

The former Platinum Stars and Sundowns player says that although the fight is the same the aftermath of relegation is very different to winning the league.

Stars are currently 14th on the log table just a point ahead of bottom of the log Maritzburg United. The 34-years-old Rogers shares his thoughts on their current standings.

Ea Lla koto will have to give everything they have on Saturday against Sundowns who are on the verge of winning the league for the ninth time since 1998.

In their last meeting in November last year The Brazilians thumped Stars 3-1 in Pretoria. Rodgers says their supporters are behind them. – Report by Tshenolo Meruti
