Roads leading to Parliament now open

The Parliament fire was captured near the Louis Botha statue at the entrance gate to Tuynhuis at 5:16 PM on 3 January 2022.

The roads leading to Parliament have been opened on Wednesday morning.

There is no activity in the precinct in front of the National Assembly as was seen over the past couple of days when the building was on fire.

Only one fire truck and an emergency van can be seen in the Parliamentary precinct.

This paves the way for the handing over of the buildings which have been gutted by the fire to the police forensic investigators.

Plein street which is the leading road to Parliament has also been reopened and motorists can now travel freely.

However, inside Parliament, the areas from the Old Assembly Building to the New Wing have been cordoned off.

The Old Assembly Building is also sealed as it has been declared unsafe to enter.
