Reading Time: < 1 minute

Several roads in the Mother City will be closed from 6am on Tuesday morning for the Cape Town Street Parade.

Previously known as the Tweede Nuwejaar Minstrel Parade, the event aims to be an inclusive carnival.

Organisers say 60 minstrel troupes from across the Mother City will perform on the streets of the CBD.

Live entertainment starts at noon with an opening ceremony on the Grand Parade, followed by the colourful street procession an hour later.

Affected roads will be closed until midnight.

The parade starts at Keizersgracht Street  in the CBD and ends at Rose Street, Bo-Kaap in Cape Town.

Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association director, Muneeb Gambeno, says local entertainment personality Loukmaan Adams will perform the event’s first theme song at the parade.
