Richmond municipal offices in KZN closed after COVID-19 case

Richmond municipal offices in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands have been closed after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

Municipality Spokesperson, Sbonelo Bhengu, says they will be deep cleaning their municipal offices. Bhengu says some people in the area still believe that COVID-19 does not exist.

He says they hope the local confirmed case will be an eye opener.

“One of the Richmond Municipal staff employees has confirmed case of COVID-19 due to that the municipality will temporarily close. While there is a cleaning up of the municipality, the affected official is currently in isolation. We are hoping this will be an eye opener to our local community who do not believe that there is COVID-19. We are hoping that people will be able to wear their mask fully cover their mouth, cover their nose, washing their hands with water and  soap and sanitizing,” says Bhengu.

Meanwhile, two more Limpopo municipalities have been closed for decontamination after employees tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Bela Bela local municipality and the offices of the Musina local municipality in Nancefield have been closed.

Spokesperson of the Bela Bela local municipality, Kabelo Mosito says an employee of an external service provider at the municipality tested positive last week.

The Vhembe District Municipality in Thohoyandou, which was also closed last week after an employee tested positive, reopened on Monday.

As of Sunday, South Africa reports 12 058 new cases, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is 276 242, the total number of deaths is 4 079 and the total number of recoveries is 134 874 which translates to a rate of 48.8%. South Africa has reached the 4 000 mark in the number of COVID-19 related death.
