Two toddlers killed in Diepsloot

The bodies of cousins two-year-old Yonelisa Mali and three-year-old Zandile Mali were found in a communal toilet in Extension 1 early on October 15, 2013.

The girls had been missing since the Saturday, October 12. Five suspects were initially identified. But charges against 4 have been withdrawn due to a lack of evidence. However, the main suspect who is facing murder charges did confess to the crime.

Pinetown accident

At least 24 people were killed and 26 injured when an articulated truck crashed into four fully loaded taxis and a light motor vehicle on Thursday evening in Pinetown, says ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

Paramedics arrived on the scene to find people strewn across the area. Onlookers directed paramedics to people lying on the side of the road critically injured. Some of the passengers were still trapped in the wreckage.

Death of Vuyo Mbuli


On May 19, South Africa woke up to the news of the death of renowned SABC television and radio presenter Vuyo Mbuli. It was reported that Mbuli collapsed while watching a rugby match between the Cheetahs and the Reds at the Free State Stadium. He was treated at the scene before being rushed to the Mediclinic hospital in the city.

Opposition increasing

Formation of Agang

Academic businesswoman and respected anti-apartheid activist, Mamphela Ramphele, announced on February 18 that she’s forming a new political platform called ‘Agang.’ Ramphela says it time to build our country.

“Young and old, poor and rich men and women, urban and rural people are yearning for a political platform that can put our country first. A platform that will be open to all South Africans of good will who want to build the country of our dreams.”

“We launch this initiative under the Sesotho name Agang, which can be interpreted in English to mean Build, let’s build the country of our dreams,” says Ramphela.

Chief Justice Puis Langa

Former chief justice Pius Langa died on Wednesday at the age of 74, his family said. “The former chief justice of South Africa, Justice Pius Langa, died this morning at the Milpark Hospital, Johannesburg,” his brother Mandla said in a statement. He had been in hospital for about a month due to a long illness.

He retired in 2009 and went on to chair the Press Freedom Commission, which looked into regulation of the print media in South Africa.

Jacob Zuma reshuffles Cabinet

On July 9, President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday reshuffled his cabinet again. Zuma made the announcement at a special media briefing which only lasted for a few minutes. The new ministers will be officially sworn-in on Wednesday.
