Residents of Greater Giyani Municipality in Limpopo say they hope the incoming council will provide them with clean potable water, proper roads and jobs. The area has been plagued with poor service delivery for years.

The African National Congress won 74.41% of the votes in the municipality followed by the Economic Freedom Fighters in last Monday’s local government elections. In the 2016 elections, the ANC got 84% of the vote.

Residents in Giyani Unit C talk about the lack of basic services.

“They have been in power for 28 years but nothing is changing. I have voted but we still lack basic services such as water, proper roads, even the hospital here is not operating properly,” says one of the residents.

Another resident says, ” I have voted with the hope that everything will change. If I did not vote, then it means nothing will ever change. ”

Fewer people voted in this year’s elections compared to the last elections.
