This year marks 10 years since South Africa and the world lost the genius pianist, saxophonist, guitarist, composer and arranger Bheki Mseleku.

The legendary multi instrumentalist’s work continues to inspire many musicians and to this day many are still interrogating and researching his inspiring art academically.

In honour of Mseleku, academic, musicians and journalists reflect on the art and life of the pianist in a night titled Rediscovering the Genius of Bheki Mseleku – conversations and performances.

Event curator Aymeric Péguillan says, Mseleku is one of the reasons he came to South Africa, “I came to discover his music in the early 90’s when I was still in Europe.”

“He was a true inspiration and one of my favourite musicians still today,” says Péguillan.

Jazz Historian Dr Lindelwa Dalamba who will chair one of the panel discussion says Mseleku attracted people through music.
