Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested two men in connection with the murder last year of four Mbhele children.

The two, one of them an uncle to the children, briefly appeared at Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal South Coast on Monday.

The family is still  shocked that one of their own is a suspect in the murder case. Accused number one, 32-year-old, Ben Mbhele is a brother to the children’s mother.

The other suspect, Sibongiseni Nyawose, 48, is a family friend.

According to the charge sheet, Mbhele had taken life covers in different insurance companies for his sister and her children.

After the children’s death, he cashed them up. However, one company suspected something was amiss and alerted the police.

The siblings between the ages of four and 12 were found at home with multiple stab wounds in September last year and their left ears cut off.

“As the community also as the school we would like the police and the law to take its course. We won’t be happy if these people can be allowed to come back to the community,” says Kwanzimakwe Higher Primary School  principal, Bonginkosi Zenda.

Both suspects were remanded in custody and will apply for bail on Wednesday.
