The eThekwini Municipality has pulled out all the stops to ensure Vodacom Durban July surpasses all expectations. Durban Tourism spokesperson Phillip Sithole says the city is expecting the event to pump more than R200 million into the local economy.
Sithole says more than 50 000 visitors have already arrived in Durban for the biggest horse racing event in Africa set to take place on Saturday.
Sithole says the city is ready with crime prevention operations across the city and surrounding townships.
“We are going to have a very exciting weekend and we are ready as the city of eThekwini to host visitors. We are ready in terms of safety and security and there are many events that have been organised by various organisers. We are expecting over 50 000 people coming over this weekend coming to the Durban July. Durban July is now more like a carnival or festival than being a horse racing event.”
