Record number of hung councils out of 2021 local government elections

At 99% of voting district declared, South Africa has already recorded a recorded number of hung councils. There are currently 69 councils with counting for five more councils yet to be concluded.  

This is more than double the number of hung councils recorded in the previous local government elections in 2016.
