Reconciliation day 20015 theme – “Bridging the divide”

South Africa marks 2015 Reconciliation Month under the theme, “Bridging the divide: Building a common South African nationhood towards a national developmental state’.”

The theme according to government reminds us that we should strengthen relations with fellow South and those who reside in the country and build a future where we all live together in harmony.

Furthermore, to embrace the common ties that binds us rather than focus on that which divides us as a nation. The theme enjoins the citizens to unite in a sense of belonging and pride.

This is also reiterated in the motto on the National Coat of Arms by the /Xam expression !ke e: /xarra //ke which literally means diverse people unite.

This is in line with founding values of our democracy. The Reconciliation Day which is commemorated annually on 16 December started in 1994 to foster reconciliation and unity amongst South African. On this day South Africans across the country are encourage to unite as a nation.
