Tiger Brands Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer Mary-Jane Morifi says both the recent unrest and recalling of approximately 20 million KOO and Hugo’s canned vegetable products have had a negative impact on business.

Tiger Brands, South Africa’s biggest food manufacturer, announced on Monday that it is recalling KOO and Hugo’s canned vegetable products over safety concerns due to potentially defective cans.

They say no health issues have been reported to date, but there is a low probability of illness and injury if the contaminated products are consumed.

However, Morifi says people should return all recalled products to the retail stores.

“Take it back to any supermarket or any wholesaler, they don’t even need to have any proof of payment to be able to get the refund. They will be given a cash refund or if they choose to have a replacement product if it’s one of the shops.”
