Rapper Young Dolph dies in Memphis shooting

Rapper Young Dolph, best known for his 2020 album “Rich Slave”, was shot to death on Wednesday in Memphis, Tennessee, triggering social media tributes from grief-stricken fans and fellow artists.

Young Dolph walked into Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies in South Memphis shortly after noon when the assailant drove up and shot and killed him, the owner of the shop told local tv station FOX News 13.

Young Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Robert Thornton, Jr., was born in Chicago but moved to Memphis as a child, Variety reported.

His cousin rapper Juice Wrld, died in December 2019 at 21 years of age of a drug overdose at Chicago’s Midway International Airport, the publication added.

In 2016, Young Dolph reached No. 49 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his studio debut, “King of Memphis”, according to Variety which reported that his most successful album was 2020’s “Rich Slave,” which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.

In September 2017, Young Dolph was shot outside a Hollywood shop and hospitalised for two weeks.
