Government says the scourge of rape in the country has reached pandemic proportions. It joined hands on February 28, 2013, with civil society in a renewed commitment to fight abuse against women and children. President Jacob Zuma presided over the launch of an anti-rape campaign in Mitchell’s Plain in the Western Cape.
South Africa has become one of the first countries to sign a commitment pledge with the UN to end violence against women and children.
