The rape case against Limpopo Government spokesperson, Phuti Seloba has been withdrawn at the Polokwane Magistrate’s court.

The lawyer representing a Botswana national who has withdrawn a rape charge against Seloba, says the woman was put under pressure.

Advocate Tumi Mokoena says government resources were utilised to make conditions uncomfortable for his client, to force her to withdraw the charges.

Seloba was briefly detained on Saturday following allegations that he had raped the woman on Friday evening at a hotel in Polokwane.

He later laid an extortion charge against his accuser, who was part of the Botswana delegation at the COSAFA football tournament.

Mokoena says Seloba, who was facing a charge regarded as more serious, was released, while his client was detained in custody the whole weekend.

The cases involved a Botswana national who is part of the assistance staff at the COSAFA football tournament.  The accusations arose from an alleged incident at a hotel in Polokwane on Friday.
