Police have launched a manhunt for a large group of suspects involved in a brazen robbery in Randburg in the north of Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.
One of the armed robbers was shot and killed during a shoot-out with security guards.
Traffic surrounding businesses and a school all ground to a halt.
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says after abandoning their getaway cars, the suspects hijacked another vehicle which has since been recovered.
“The security personnel from Brinks went to collect some coins and money from one of the building premises in Randburg. As they were getting out they were approached by these suspects. The suspects were trying to escape into two get away cars.”
“The other two cars that they used as getaway cars were found a few streets away from where the cash in transit robbery actually took place. Inside one of these cars, we found the body that we believe is one of the suspects,” adds Masondo.
