Rand Water moves to next phase of Stage 2 water restrictions

Rand Water says it will be moving to the next phase of Stage 2 water-shedding on Friday evening after failing to achieve desired results on consumption.

The move will ensure that Rand Water takes full control of the water supply and no longer relies on consumers to reduce consumption. The utility imposed stage 2 water restrictions last week but says water use is still too high for supply.

Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo explains:

“We are now coming with a system where we say we’re going to take the flow control management of our reservoirs. So that means that in areas in different municipalities. City of JHB, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni, Rand West, Mogale city, and Rustenberg will be affected. They will experience intermittent water supply tonight from 8 o’clock. The minimum that you’ll go without will be from 20H00 until 06:00 in the morning.”

On Sunday Johannesburg Mayor, Dada Morero, said he was confident that water supply across the City would be back to normal.

Morero was speaking following the announcement of the City’s new Mayoral Committee on Saturday.
