Rand Water launches Mobile Generator Farm

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Rand Water has launched the first phase of its Mobile Generator Farm which will help prevent water supply interruptions in case of  loadshedding or power supply cut-offs.

Last month, residents of several towns including Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging, Mogale City and parts of Soweto and Roodepoort were left without water for days due to cable theft that impacted one of Rand Water’s pump stations.

Rand Water COO, Sipho Mosai says the generators cost about three-million rand, “Essentially, it gives us the flexibility to keep our pump stations running in cases of power outages, and so we’re here to test them. Some of them are mobile, some of them are fixed. Those that are fixed will be on site; the mobile ones they give us flexibility to move them around to pump stations where there are no fixed generators. It will not give us 100 percent pumping capacity, but 50% of the pumping capacity.”
