Newly elected African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa’s family at Khalavha village outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo are celebrating his victory.

Local residents celebrated his victory after a long wait on Monday.

Ramaphosa was born in Soweto but his family’s roots are at Khalavha. Immediately after the announcement was made, they broke into shouting

Ramaphosa’s sister Joyce, who owns a bakery says they had been praying for his victory.

“I am so happy because my brother is now the one who is going to run the whole country. He is a humble person. We learned discipline from him and he taught us that we must tell our children to go to school because in South Africa we need educated people to lead the country.”

“I believe in him, he will lead the country no doubt,” adds Joyce.
